In Loving Memory of

Leroy Boston (Roy) Lightfoot

of Edmonton, Alberta
May 4, 2014

A kind, talented man of English ancestry, with a love of words.

Roy earned BEd and BSc degrees from the University of Alberta at Summer School, Night School and one term in residence, while he taught, volunteered and raised his family with Anne McEachern. Whether using the skills he learned on the family farm in Del Bonita to overhaul a $400 car to get another year out of it, or teaching, he worked with enthusiasm and discipline. He taught children from Jefferson in southern Alberta, to Big Stone, to Wetaskiwin and then Edmonton where he became Principal of Mount Royal and Norwood Schools. Roy’s lovely woodwork is part of our homes. His sense of humour, his compassion and his integrity - part of our lives.

He is survived by Anne, his wife of 61 years; sister, Joan (David) Fanthorpe; children, Neil (Mechthilde), Penelope, Harry, Katherine (Mitch Waldon) & Helen (Andy Brooks); grandchildren, Jodie, Jay (Christine), Colin, Alec, Tara, Daina, Chase, Kyle, Aaron, Elliot, Avery & Elise; great-grandchild, Ty; former in-laws, Theresa, Paul and Pauline; and many friends and family. Roy was predeceased by his siblings, Joyce, Peggy & George.

Many thanks to the caregivers, especially Dr. Kijewski, who provided outstanding support. There will be a family gathering at a later date to celebrate Roy’s memory.
