In Loving Memory of

Garry Jenkins

of Edmonton
Apr 22, 1928 - Apr 8, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of Garry Jenkins announces his passing on April 8, 2014. Garry lead a rich and full life. He was a person of humility, integrity, warmth … and always had a sense of fun. Garry is survived by Betty, his wife of 58 years and the love of his life; three children – Kevin (Helen), Ian (Marjorie) and Sam (Maureen); six grandchildren that he adored – Matthew, Hilary, Hannah, Robyn, Lauren and Taylor; and his sister, May. He was pre-deceased by his parents, William & Marjory; and his brother, Sandy, an RAF pilot who was killed in action during the Second World War. Garry was born in Dyce, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and worked with Hudson’s Bay Wholesale for over 25 years. He continued his career with George N. Jackson, a wholesale window covering supplier, until he retired in 1993. Garry’s main passions were his family and sports. He particularly liked to combine the two in various ways, including playing badminton with Betty, golfing with Kevin, watching the Oilers with Ian or coaching Sam’s soccer teams. Over the years, he had many amazing sporting experiences as a participant and a fan, including getting a hole-in-one at 80 years old, golfing and curling until last year, attending four Stanley Cup winning games in Edmonton, attending a World Cup soccer final, and helping to start community soccer in Crestwood. For almost 60 years, Garry and Betty have worshipped and been enthusiastically involved with Robertson-Wesley United Church, where they made some of their closest friends. A Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19th at Robertson - Wesley United Church (10209 – 123 Street, Edmonton, T5N 1N3). Donations in Garry’s memory may be sent to Robertson – Wesley United Church in support of ‘mission and service’ or to the charity of your choice.
