William Nywening

In Loving Memory of

William Nywening

Nov 20, 2013

Bill Nywening’s desire was met when he went to be with his Lord.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 60 years Lenie. Dad to six children; Rita (John) Buitenbos, John (Marina) Nywening, Carolin McVey, Arlene (Hector) Cardenas, Kevin Nywening, and Christine Nywening; Opa to three grandchildren, Chris (Cara) Buitenbos, Dianna Nywening and Reilly Nywening; and Opi to great-grandchildren, Ava and Max Buitenbos.

He is survived by his sister Dina VanVeen and brother Ralph Nywening.

Bill came to Canada in the early 1950’s and worked at various jobs, including building the fieldstone walls on the then-new Edmonton City Hall and fountain. In the early 1960’s Bill became a realtor and founded Country Wide Real Estate. In the 1970’s and 80’s he bought land through his company, Excelsior Developments, and created many subdivisions in Parkland and Sturgeon Counties. Excelsior Nurseries, just off the Fort Road was his final career, propagating various trees that were previously unknown to the Edmonton area. He loved dealing with anyone who drove into the yard and made sure that most left with more than they needed.

His 10-year struggle with Parkinson’s disease is now over.

The family thanks Rivercrest Care Center and Emmanuel Home for their years of support.

A Visitation will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, at Little Mountain Cemetery. A Funeral Service will follow at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 13427 57 St Edmonton, at 2:00 p.m.
