Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Dorothy Fennema

of Edmonton
Nov 19, 1921 - Oct 31, 2013

Our beloved Dorothy passed away peacefully into the arms of her heavenly family on October 31, 2013, 20 days before her 92nd Birthday. She was predeceased by her cherished husband Everett in 2003, and is survived by her six children, Linda Holmes, Ken, Tom (Karen), Conrad (Hilda), Cindy Braak (Corry), and Louann Peters (Thomas), as well as 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was the last surviving child of Jacob and Aafje Prins, an Edmonton family who emigrated from Holland in 1927. On their arrival in Edmonton, they lived in the basement of the First Christian Reformed Church, and Dorothy remained a committed, lifelong member of that Church. The Prins family later moved to their new home on the Humberstone Farm, situated on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River in Beverly, on the site now known as Rundle Park.

Dorothy was first and foremost a wife and mother, always caring for her family with love and attention. She was an exceptional cook and pastry baker, as well as an avid gardener. Dorothy and Everett’s award winning flower garden featured an abundance of roses and was truly a sight to behold at their 57th street home. She was a generous friend and neighbor, and when she worked at the downtown Woodwards, in the Women’s Shoe department, her caring assistance resulted in many repeat customers asking for her when they were buying shoes. Dorothy was a kind and gentle person, and will be forever missed and remembered with love.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dorothy's wonderful life at the First Christian Reformed Church (10956 - 96 St., Edmonton) at 11:30 am on November 14, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta in Dorothy's memory would be appreciated.
