On December 31, 2012, Eva Doreen Gillis passed away suddenly at the Sturgeon Community Hospital at the age of 71 years. Eva was born in Sydney, N.S. on September 9, 1941.

She is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Heather (Donald) Fairweather and Brenda (Randy) Kozak, and granddaughter Connor Fairweather. She is also survived by sisters, Carol Peddle (Dave Mills) of St. Albert and Margaret (Duncan) Campbell of Sydney; brothers, Bob (Lorraine) and Alan, both of Sydney; sisters-in-law, Elsie Peddle and Barbara Peddle; brother-in-law, George Carmichael, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Eva was the predeceased by her parents, Roy and Frances Peddle; siblings, Ruth Carmichael, Joan Shaw, Foster and Fraser.

Eva was a special education teacher who taught for many years in St. Albert Catholic School District #3, mainly at Albert Lacombe and Father Jan schools. She also taught in Sydney, Montreal and North Vancouver throughout her career.

Eva was a three time cancer survivor for over 27 years. She felt it was important to give back, as she had received so much assistance and became a very active volunteer at the Cross Cancer Institute as well as fund-raising for The Run for the Cure. She faced every day with optimism, a positive attitude and fresh lipstick. She was an inspiration to all who met her.

We love you and will miss you always. A Celebration of Life will take place at the St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Dr, St. Albert on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
