Our beloved Sophia Votis was born April 4, 1927 in Skepasto, Kalavrita, Greece to her father, Vassilis and her mother, Georgia. She was one of six siblings who were devoted to one another throughout the entirety of their lives. Sophia moved to Edmonton in 1959, and was married to Thomas in 1960. Their sons, George and Anastasios were born in 1961 and 1966 respectively.

Sophia, who had lived through the difficult times of World War II in Greece, was loved and valued by all who knew her. She was an exemplary woman of strong moral character, who never waivered. She was a kind and generous soul who inspired love and compassion.

Her interests included family and friends, cooking, and traveling. She devoted much of her time and energy loving and supporting her family and friends. She was especially close to her brother, Gus, as well as her two children.

She was an active member of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, for whose Philoptochos she volunteered throughout her life.

Mrs. Votis is survived by her husband, Thomas (Pappou); her brother and best friend, our favourite uncle, Constantine (Gus) Pappas; her two sons, George and Anastasios; daughter-in-law, Olga; two grandchildren, Sophia and George Thomas; as well as her nieces, Aspasia and Voula; nephew, Angelo and other relatives in Greece and America.
