In Loving Memory of

Thomas Paton

of Edmonton
Mar 21, 1921 - Sep 2, 2012

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Thomas Paton, at the age of 91 years. He left us on the 2nd of September at the University of Alberta Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Tom was predeceased by his wife Kathleen in 1987. He leaves behind his long time friend Kris Mewar; daughter, Kathleen and her husband Denis Ruth of Prince George, B.C.; son, Robert and his wife Irene; son, Donald and his wife Elizabeth; and son, John - all of Edmonton, AB. Tom also leaves eleven grandchildren: Tom (Jennifer), Sean (Stacy), Michael (Sheryl), David (Catherine), Carrie (Dennis), Jeffery (Heather), Brianne (Shawn), Kelly, Erynn, Shelagh and Shannon; as well as eleven great grandchildren.

Tom joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, and served in Great Britain and the Burma Theatre (Sri Lanka) through to the war’s end. He returned to Canada and continued his work at the University of Alberta Hospital in the carpentry shop. He then joined the Department of Education for the Province of Alberta; and retired in 1979.

Dad was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling. He was a loyal fan of the Oilers and the Eskimos and often said that both teams missed the opportunity to have him handle the coaching duties. He volunteered weekly at the Telus World of Science until he was 90 years old.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011 - 114 Street, Edmonton, with viewing to take place one hour prior.

Donations can be made in memory of Tom to the Salvation Army (9618 – 101A Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 0C7) or to STARS Air Ambulance (Building 19, 29 Airport Road, Edmonton, AB T5G 0W6).
