Valerie Derksen of Edmonton passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the age of 47. Valerie was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and moved to Calgary with her mother in 1970. There she met the love of her life, Douglas Blaine Derksen, and they were married on July 4, 1992. On July 26, 1993, they welcomed their new son, Cody Mitchell Derksen. They lived in Calgary for eight more years before moving to Edmonton. Valerie was a devoted mother and wife and enjoyed spending time with children and her family and friends, who will miss her dearly. Valerie is survived by her husband, Douglas; son, Cody; step-daughter, Ashley Meyer; three grandchildren, Dominic, Liam and Logan; parents, Bernice and Robert Peacock; sister, Tracey (John) Zehl; aunt, Cindy (Ken) McComb; and uncle, Ivan Sturm; along with numerous cousins and other relatives.

There will be an Open House at the Derksen’s residence in Edmonton on Friday, May 4, 2012 commencing at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, May 5, 2012, a Memorial Service will be held at Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, at 2:30 p.m.
