Surrounded by his family, George died after a short battle with cancer. He was 78 years old. He was born and educated in Edmonton Alberta. After High School graduation, he worked at Coca Cola, then at CN as a teletype operator. He joined the Underwriting Profession in 1957, retiring 41 years later. George received his CLU designation in 1962 and CHFC in 1989. He was active in the Life Underwriters Association over the years, elected President in 1968 and winning the Totem Pole Award that year. He moderated LUATC classes and was also a member of the Estate Planning Council. Community involvement included fund raising for the Heart Fund and the Red Cross, and his acts of kindness and generosity to individuals he helped over the years will be fondly remembered. George enjoyed bird hunting, canoeing, cross country skiing and gardening. George is survived by his beloved wife, Claudine; daughters, Diane Koyich (Fred Partington) England, and Lindsay Jacobs, Toronto, and Sandy Snider (Gary), St. Jacobs, Ontario; grand-daughters, Rebecca Snider (Michael Bezpaly) Kitchener, Ontario, Emrys Jacobs (Waylon Buchanan), Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Katy Koyich (Maxime Pourrat), England; brother, Dan Koyich, Calgary; sister, Margaret Boscolo, Edmonton; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Roy & Laura Koyich; brother, Robert; sister, Nancy Pulciani; and step-son, Robert Schmitt. A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Hope Mission, Mustard Seed Church or the charity of one's choice.
