On Monday, March 26, 2012, Elsa Schwarz of Edmonton passed away at the age of 100 years young. She is survived by her son Bernie and daughter Christine; grandchildren, Jody, Joel (Jill), and Marc (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Gaige, Braden, Keifer, Isabella, Benjamin and Olivia as well as extended family in Europe. Elsa was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Harald in 2008. One of her most noteworthy accomplishments in life was to represent Czechoslovakia as the leader of the Sudeten German Ladies Team in the 1937 Workers’ Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium and to win a team and individual 2nd place. A special thank you to Dr. Chris Lord for his care and compassion of Elsa. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton, with interment to follow at Northern Lights Cemetery, 156 Street – Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Elsa’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta.
