Patricia Katz

In Loving Memory of

Patricia Katz

of Edmonton
Aug 1, 1931 - Feb 17, 2012

On February 17, 2012, Pat passed away at the Universityof Alberta Hospital. She was predeceased by her loving companion of many years, Mr. Lynn Morgan. Pat will be terribly missed by Lynn’s family, Evan (Rebecca) Morgan, Kass Morgan and family, Barbara (John) Couch and family; and by Alan, Grace and Jasmine Chan. Pat is also survived by a close and intimate group of friends –her second family – all of whom loved her dearly, and by her beloved cat Jo-Jo.

As a young woman, Pat attended the University of California at Berkeley. She lived in a number of exciting and exotic places, including Finland and Washington D. C. Pat moved to Edmonton in the 1960s, and joined Edmonton Public Schools in 1966. She had a long and successful career with the school district, working in Facilities Administration, the Planning Department and the Monitoring and Planning Department. For many years, she was the school district’s Senior Planner for Land Development. Pat worked successfully on many challenging and complex projects. She always brought her wonderful analytical and communication skills as well as her exceptional diplomacy to bear in solving problems and creating win-win solutions for the school district, the city of Edmonton, communities, schools and students. She retired in 1996.

Pat had many interests. Chief among them may have been exploring the great restaurants of Edmonton. She was recognized and welcomed warmly in all the very best of them. She frequented the city’s farmers’ markets on a regular basis and loved to support local businesses. Pat especially enjoyed trouncing friends at Scrabble, cards and other games – something she did on a regular basis. Her greatest joy, however, was probably enjoying time with family and friends over a nice meal and a good glass of wine.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25th at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lynn Morgan Community Service Learning Scholarship or the Lynn Morgan Music Scholarship at the University of Alberta (www.giving.ualberta.ca)
