Roy Eric Finzel passed away peacefully, with his wife, Christine, and best friend, Dale Schinkel, by his side on March 12, 2024. He was 69 years of age.

He will be lovingly remembered by his father, Oswald Finzel; his brother, Ricky (Bernadette) Finzel; his nephews, Matthew Finzel, Evan McKenzie Maliphant (Emily); his niece, Elizabeth Finzel (Branko); his sister-in-law, Eileen Maliphant (Robin); his aunt, Annie (Uldis) Vigants in Albany, New York; and his cousins, Eccles (Patricia) and Corey Vigants New Jersey.

Roy was predeceased by his loving mother, Helene Finzel; his mother-in-law, Anna Kapuscinski; and his sister-in-law, Mary Donna Peterson (nee Kapuscinski).

His passion for education led him to pursue higher learning at the University of Calgary, University of Ottawa, and the University of Alberta. He received a Bachelors of Science in Geography at the University of Calgary in 1979, and a Masters of Science in Wildland Recreation, Department of Forest Science, at the University of Alberta in 1986.

In 1986 , Roy started a career with Alberta Provincial Parks focusing on Visitor Statistics which he greatly enjoyed for 26 years.

Roy loved hiking and cross-country skiing in Kananaskis country, riding his Triumph motorcycle through the mountains, running in marathons and the Jasper Banff Relay, dragon boating with the "Uncivil Serpents", and golfing and curling with his wife Christine and friends.

As per Roy's wishes no formal service will be held. A private Celebration of a Life well-lived will be held in late Spring 2024. A Private Family Service will also be held in the future at Eden Brook Funeral Homes and Cemetery in Springbank, Alberta.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the Cross Cancer Institute (11560 University Avenue, Edmonton,Alberta,T6G 1Z2) or the Roozen Family Hospice Centre (9808-148 Street NW, Edmonton,Alberta,T5N 3E8) in appreciation of the exceptional care he received.
