Obituary

Marjorie Matilda Gordon

In Loving Memory of

Marjorie Matilda Gordon

of Edmonton, Alberta

1943 - 2023

Marjorie Matilda Gordon, our beloved mother passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023, at the age of 80. Formerly of Saint Brides, Alberta. Marge and her late husband Laurie mostly made Edmonton, Alberta, their home although they lived in many...many places in Alberta. She was a lifelong artist, musician, and earlier in her life a painter. Marge made friends and admirers wherever she went by sharing herself through music, meals, art, conversation, and with a nod or a smile. Our mother had more friends than anyone we've ever known, from lifelong school friends to new friends she met recently at the Silverbirch Lodge.

To Marge, family meant everything, not just her children, but her three grandchildren, her godchild Chad O'Neill, all her nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and of course siblings. She gifted us her love of family by creating a family reunion that she prayed would last far beyond her generation, so that her grandchildren and theirs would experience the joy that getting to know our kin could bring.

Kind, chatty, loving, fair, cheerful, honest, uplifting, and caring are just a few of the ways our mother will be remembered. She'd sing you a song, lend you her ear, cook you a meal or open her home to you, caring for you and sharing with you gave her purpose and were the gifts she effortlessly gave others. She volunteered her time to run organizations, plan events, and write music. Marge's happy place was behind her guitar, mandolin, or banjo and if you knew her long ago, you'd have to add Omnichord, jaw harp, or spoons to that list. Music fed her soul! If you sang or played music with her at a reunion, Fiddlers Roost, while wintering in Arizona, at Cutty Sark, or on her CDs, please know you held a special place in her heart. She will forever be deeply and heartbreakingly missed.

Thank you to the staff of Unit 32 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for all your kindness and care given to Mom over the last few months.

Marge is lovingly remembered by her eldest daughter Heather (Cameron) Kruppi and her grandson Dynamite, her youngest daughter Meagan (Jaysen) Huculak and her family. Her sisters Edna Bohachyk, Florene Labant, Gustine Riopel, and Marlene Weaver. She is predeceased by her husband John (Laurie) Gordon, brother Lonnie O'Neill and parents Florence and Gus O'Neill.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
