In Loving Memory of

Hazel Bespoyasny

of St. Albert
Nov 6, 1943 - Oct 14, 2023

Hazel Bespoyasny passed away at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton on October 14, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer and dementia.

Hazel was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta on November 6, 1943 to William and Helen (Kostiuk) Pirnak. Hazel was the youngest of four children.

Hazel met her beloved husband Bill at a dance in Bellis, Alberta in the early 1960s and they were married on January 29, 1962. They spent the early years of their marriage in Willow River, British Columbia where Bill worked in the Logging industry. They moved to Edmonton in the mid-1970s and settled in the Clareview area.

Hazel stayed home and raised their three children, Wayne, Darryl and Corry before returning to work first at NAIT in the kitchen and cafeteria and then later at Alberta Blue Cross where she worked for almost 20 years.

Hazel and Bill bought their dream acreage out near Gibbons, Alberta when they retired. They had a massive garden each summer which kept them both busy and provided the family with the best tasting vegetables. The acreage was also a wonderful place for the family to visit and stay. Hazel, "Baba" to her grandchildren, loved dancing and cooking with the grandkids. They had many happy memories making jewellery together. Hazel and Bill left the acreage and moved into St. Albert in 2017. She loved to cook and particularly enjoyed the large meals she made for the family at the acreage. Hazel had a passion for sewing and in later years, she and Bill would travel to farmers markets around Northern Alberta where they would sell the beautiful baby clothes, blankets and other accessories she made.

Hazel was predeceased by her dearest Bill in 2021.

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Wayne (Anna) and Darryl; daughter, Corry (Martin), and her grandchildren: Kendall, Annika, Bethany, Evan, Lauryn and Sam. She also leaves behind her siblings Emily and Russell and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of both Hazel's life and her beloved Bill's life will be held at a later date.
