Bruce Gordon Underhill

1955 - 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Bruce Gordon Underhill, on April 23, 2023.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Irene Chua; sister, Joy (Mark) Duke; nieces: Amy Bernard (Thomas Boychuk) and Dana Bernard; brothers-in-law: Chua Hack Piang (Tan Joo Kiang), and Chua Hat Eng; and sisters-in-law: Florence Eio (Eio Cheng Kiang), and Diana Chua (Tan Hong Cheng).

He was predeceased by his father, Robert Underhill, in 2016; and mother, Juanita Underhill, in 2011.

Bruce was born in Calgary, Alberta and was the eldest son of Robert and Juanita Underhill, and older brother of Joy. When he was 8, the family moved to Regina. They moved to Edmonton the following year where Bruce found lifelong friends in Uwe, Norm, Glenn and Ralph. During his youth he was very active, often skiing with friends and even established a ski club, among all the other sports and activities he got up to. He also had a passion for cars, and he loved to be there to help give rides to anyone who needed one.

After high school, Bruce attended the University of Alberta to go into education, but after some time Bruce left the university and continued onto his lifetime career in road construction. He worked for Standard General for 25 Years and then Park Paving for 7 years up until his retirement. He enjoyed his career and was well like by his crew. During off season, he loved travelling. In his many travels he made many wonderful memories and met Irene. They married after many years of having a long-distance relationship. When he was not travelling, he loved spending time with his nieces, Amy and Dana and his honorary nieces, Cassarah and Briasha.

During Bruce's journeys around the world, he made many friends everywhere he went, and even established honorary families in places like Australia. He was also well loved by his extended family in Singapore and went to visit them whenever he could. His family and extended family are grateful for the time and happiness he had brought them.

Bruce was kind, caring and humorous and a joy to be with. He will be eternally missed by all the people whose lives he has touched. We hope we can carry on his legacy of caring and being a blessing to one another.
