In Loving Memory of

John Michel Scraba

of Edmonton
Dec 23, 1948 - Nov 25, 2022

The family of John M. Scraba is saddened to announce his passing on November 25, 2022, at the age of 73.

He is survived by his children, Amanda Getson and Jay Scraba: 2 grandchildren; and sisters, Alvina Bayrak and May Hample. John was predeceased by his sisters, Alberta Scraba and Florence Pura; and parents, Nick and Julia Scraba.

John was born in Edmonton and spent his formative years in the neighbourhood of Beverly, attending East Glen High School. After graduation, he studied radio broadcasting and, during that time, met his first wife, Daphne, with whom he had his two children. His early years in radio were spent in Edson, Alberta, and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Always a hard worker, John also started a construction and decking company and moved to Saskatoon, where his children were born. The family moved back to Alberta, and he built a home in the community of Sherwood Park. His time in Alberta was short and he found himself starting a new chapter of life in Regina, Saskatchewan, with his second wife, Cathy; step-son, Justin; and a new job as Communications Director for the Grant Devine Tori government. After 8 years in Saskatchewan, John spent some time in Ontario and Manitoba before returning to Alberta, where he would live until his passing. He returned to construction and, with best friend John Barath, they began developing apartment complexes. He started the third long-term relationship of his life with Chrissy, whom he was with for 10 years. John spent most of his retirement years caring for his sister, Alberta, and last romantic partner, Shirley. He died peacefully at his home.
