It is with profound sadness that the family would like to announce the passing of Charles, on Wednesday July 27, at the age of 96.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Malcolm, Robert, and Sonja; and his grandchildren: Tyshaune (Trina) Romano and Tiayana (Sam) Goodwin. Charles was predeceased by his loving wife Joan, of 34 years; his sister Jean, and his parents David and Elizabeth.

Charles was born in Scotland in 1926, completed an engineering degree at Glasgow University, and emmigrated to Canada in 1949. He completed a M.Sc. in Engineering at the University of Alberta in 1961 and met his future wife while returning to Scotland that spring. Charles and Joan were married in Edson, AB in 1962 and resided in Edmonton until 1973 when he moved to Newfoundland to teach at Memorial University. He returned to Edmonton in 1975, where he remained until his death.

Charles was very active in the local community and participated on the board of Strathcona Presbyterian Church, the board of the Pleasantview Community Association, he was active with the Edmonton Scottish Society, and he provided translation services for the Edmonton Immigrant Services Association.

Charles was well recognized as a Civil Engineer and is known for editing the "Guide to Bridge Hydraulics" published in 1973. He joined Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd. in 1975, where he remained until his retirement in 2017. Charles maintained a very active lifestyle and enjoyed Scottish dancing, tennis, golf, skiing and biking.

Charles' remains will be cremated and details of the memorial service will be published later.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Venta Care Center, MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence, and The Churchill for their care and compassion in recent years.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Chapel, 10011 - 114 Street, Edmonton. The service will be available on livestream.
