Obituary

Michael John Day

In Loving Memory of

Michael John Day

of Edmonton

On April 26, 2022, Michael Day passed away from multiple myeloma cancer at the age of 90. The family's profound sadness of Michael's passing is eased by knowing that their beloved father, father in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather lived a full and happy life.

Michael was born in London, England in 1931. He emigrated to Canada in 1954 with his wife Peggy. They settled in Edmonton and raised three children - Susan, Mark and Christine, and remained married for 37 years. Michael enjoyed a long career in the energy sector with 19 years as Assistant Deputy Minister of Alberta's Energy and Natural Resources department. Numerous interests and hobbies kept him active throughout his lifetime including singing in the Edmonton Opera chorus, volunteering as a street car conductor at Fort Edmonton Park, a love of motor racing and a passion for model trains. He took great delight in building a model layout a few years ago for his great-grandson, Michael, and over this past year, enthusiastically worked on his own new model layout.

In 2006 he married Eva-Maria and they had many years together full of adventures and holidays to Europe. After Eva-Maria's passing in 2017, he was blessed to find love, happiness and new shared adventures with his dear companion Marieke.

Michael maintained a positive attitude right to the end and was deeply appreciative of the love, support and care he received. He passed away with daughters by his side. Michael will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. A private family service has been held.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or University Hospital Foundation.
