PATCHELL, Beatrice (Betty) Ruth (nee: Strain) 1927 -2022 With heavy hearts, we announce that Betty passed away on January 20, 2022, at the age of 94. She is survived by Ross, her loving husband of 72 years, and her children, Graham, Karen Young, Lloyd (Peggy), and Elaine Jones (David); grandchildren, Darby, Scott, Mark, Melanie, Jason and Angela; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Betty was born and raised in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, on the family farm. She was the youngest of 13 children. She grew up during the Great Depression, which gave her a resilient spirit that endured her entire life. She had an appreciation of life's simple pleasures, farm life, gardening, and babies. Those who knew her loved her gentle, kind, and cheerful nature. Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She met and married the love of her life, Ross, a Saskatchewan farm boy, in 1949, and they moved to Edmonton where they raised their four children. She maintained special connections with her large extended family. Anyone wanting to know about a family member could rely on Betty to provide that information. She carried her family's history, connecting the past to present. She enriched our lives by sharing her stories. She will be sorely missed. Some of her favourite activities were summers spent visiting her siblings' farms, camping trips to the Rockies, and being a "Camp Mom" at Surprise Lake Camp. She was an active member of St. Andrew's United Church. A Celebration of her Life will be scheduled at a later date in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the bissellcentre.org.
