In Loving Memory of

William Laughlin Elwood

of Sherwood Park, Alberta

William Laughlin Elwood, known to his friends as Bill, passed away peacefully in his Sherwood Park home on February 12, 2021 at the age of 87.

Bill always said he lived a charmed life as he was born in Canada (the best country in the world he always said) and had a loving family with his parents Bill and Nora, his younger brother Percy, his younger sister Eve and adopted brother Larry.

He went to school in Calgary where he met his two lifelong friends, Dennis and Ron.

After high school he met the love of his life, Marjorie, who he married in 1958. They had two sons, Lloyd and David who he loved dearly and was very proud of.

He fell into a career that he loved and excelled at with Dome, Petrofina, and PetroCanada. He thoroughly enjoyed all the people he worked with and remained friends with many of them even after his retirement in 1990.

During his summer holidays, Bill loved boating, waterskiing, camping and golfing with friends and family.

After retirement, Bill started a second career with Maloney Steel where he was able to travel the world, making friends wherever he went with his signature opening line, "My name is Bill, I’m from Calgary and I am here to help you".

After Bill retired from Maloney, he and Marj were able to become snowbirds, spending their winters in Arizona and California, making friends wherever they went.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Marjorie Pearl (nee Jackson), sons Lloyd and Dave (Sharon), beloved grandchildren Harper and Chase, sister Eve Collins, sister-in-law Donna Elwood, and brother-in-law Morris (Heather) Jackson.

There will be no service at this time, but you can expect a celebration of Bill’s life once Covid restrictions are eased.
