Joanne Thys

In Loving Memory of

Joanne Thys

(Maiden: Grimmon)
of Edmonton

After a life of many joys and some challenges, Joanne was called to her eternal home on February 4th, 2021. In Joanne’s final days she was able to experience the love and compassion of those whose lives she touched.

Bert and Ria Grimmon were blessed with the birth of Joanne Ellen Grimmon on August 18th, 1965 in Edmonton. She became a sister to Hennie Schenk (Case) and brother John Bert (Bonnie) followed soon thereafter. Joanne grew up in Steele Heights and attended North Edmonton Christian School followed by Edmonton Christian High. Joanne had a strong core of girls that became life-long friends. While involved with Trinity Church Youth Group she first met the new guy in church. Son of Gerry and Wilma Thys, Harold began dating Joanne and became family to Lorraine Dziwenka (Jon) and Janice Thys (Darvin). Joanne and Harold were married June 24, 1989. After a few years of life as a fun-seeking couple, they were blessed with 4 children…Landon, Jaxson, Brooklynn and Nathan. As a family, and extended family, they enjoyed trips to the mountains, some tropical vacations and of course…the cabin. Wonderful memories were created over these years as well as the addition of Rebecca and Brenna.

Even though Joanne has her kids, she also has "The Kids". Little did Joanne know that her entire life would revolve around her love of children (and volleyball). She attended Grant MacEwan Community College and obtained Early Childhood Certificate and then worked as a Teacher Assistant. Joanne then spent over 20 years as a second mother to countless children in her dayhome, most of which were children from teachers of the Christian School. She also dedicated many years to Wee Worship, Trinity Church Children’s program.

Joanne was a choir member, choir mom and volleyball mom. She loved crafting with kids. Joanne’s life was filled with music, children and love. Love for her children, love for her parents, love for her siblings and also for her nieces and nephews. But, most of all she loved the Lord our God…her God.

Even the most beautiful flowers in God’s creation don’t last forever…but Joanne will because she is one of God’s children.
