Henry Vermeulen

In Loving Memory of

Henry Vermeulen

of Edmonton

Henry William Richard Vermeulen died surrounded by family on May 15, 2019, at the age of 82. Henry was born in Germany and came to Canada in 1967 at the age of 30. Although English was his second language, Henry achieved a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and worked at AGT and Telus until his retirement. At home, he was the ultimate fixer-and-builder with a few projects always on the go—but his life’s ultimate focus and joy was his family. More recently, Henry enjoyed several trips to Germany to reconnect with relatives and friends. Henry was known as the family historian and spent countless hours collecting and organizing stories for his children, grandchildren, and a large and loving extended family.

Henry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Helen; children, Stephanie (Justin) Balko, Peter (Michaela), and Andrea; grandchildren, Helena, Mila, Nora, and Estelle; siblings, Fred, Lewis (Lorraine), and Ute (Rudi) Rieder, Philine Hillas, Charlotte (Peter) Edgar, Ted (Reesa), and Susie (Murray) Coen as well as nieces, nephews, and other loved ones, including relatives and friends.

Henry was predeceased by his father, Henry; mother, Maria; stepmother, Inge and grandson, Will.

The family wishes to express thanks to the medical staff at the University of Alberta Hospital. Donations in memory of Henry may be made directly to the University Hospital Foundation, 8440-112 St. NW, Edmonton, AB, T6G 9Z9.

A private celebration of Henry's life will be held at a later date.
