On Friday, January 18, 2019 our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mennie Veldkamp, went home to be with her Lord at the age of 83. She trusted in the Lord throughout her life and her simple, humble faith gave us strength.

Mom’s dignity and faith while dealing with significant health issues, particularly these last few months, has been her testimony to all of us and every person she has interacted with in the medical field. Born in Groningen, The Netherlands on April 5, 1935, the 2nd child of Hendrikje and Klaas Doesburg, she lived a full life. After immigrating to Canada with her family in 1951, she met her future husband, Cornelis Veldkamp and together they built a life which included a large family and successful businesses. It was a partnership that also blessed those around them and we were also blessed with loving and steadfast parents. Mom touched many lives and to her last day she always wanted to talk more about you, than her...she had a servant heart. We are comforted to know that Mom is at rest and has seen the face of God. The race has been run and she has finished well.

She will be lovingly remembered by her family: children, Rita (Bill) Veldkamp-Nyman, Henry (Rosa), Karl (Hetty), Joan (Joe) Helder, Leona (Walter) Nieuwenhout, Dorothy Veldkamp, Ed (Susan), John (Evelyn), Richard (Annette) and Colin (Andrea); 36 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Irene Hoeksema and Effie Sikma; sister-in-law, Hennie (Oeds) Brandsma; many nieces and nephews; numerous relatives and friends.

Mennie was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Cornelis (Corky) Veldkamp; parents, Klaas and Hendrikje Doesburg; siblings, Sophie (Gary) Hoeksema, Dan Doesburg and John (Rae) Doesburg; brothers-in-law, Peter Hoeksema and Clarence Sikma.

Special thank you to the attentive and caring staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, the Emmanuel Home and the Grey Nuns Palliative Care Unit.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Providence Canadian Reformed Church, 12905 - 122 Avenue NW, Edmonton.

Donations in memory of Mennie may be made to the Emmanuel Home.
