We remember and celebrate the life of Thomas Votis, grandfather and father, and a loyal friend who peacefully passed away the evening of December 30th, 2018 at 98 years of age in his home in Edmonton, Alberta.

Our dear Papou Thomas was born of Greek descent on May 10, 1920 in an area known as Asia Minor, to his father, George and his mother, Anastasia.

In 1922, his family relocated to Drama, Greece. Thomas, who had lived through the difficult times of World War II enlisted to serve in the Greek Army. Thomas fought in two very significant battles during WWII; the Battle of Greece and the Battle of El Alamein in North Africa under General Montgomery. Thomas later moved to Canada after the war where he lived closely with his tight family. His sons George and Anastasios were born in 1961 and 1966 respectively.

Thomas was valued and respected by all who knew him. He inspired strong family values and had an extraordinary work ethic which he imparted on his sons. His interests included his family, his work, and his following of current events. He was devoted to his pre-deceased beloved wife Sophia on whom he relied and to whom, along with his children and grandchildren, he dedicated all his love.

Thomas’ life has always been about love for his family. His Spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr Votis is survived by his sons, George and Anastasios; daughter-in-law, Olga; two grandchildren, Sophia and George Thomas, as well as his relatives in Greece.

Thomas was predeceased by his beloved wife Sophia, brother-in-law Constantin (Gus) and other family members from Greece.
