It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marvin Walter Sawyer on November 4th, 2018 in Edmonton, Alberta; he was 87 years of age. Marvin was born March 9, 1931 in Hafford, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of ten children born to John and Kateryna Sawyshyn (nee Bartko).

Marvin was raised on the family farm in Hafford, Saskatchewan. After completing high school in 1948, he moved to Alberta working at various jobs in Calgary and Edmonton. In 1949, Marvin began his lifetime career within the oil industry. The oil patch took him and Joyce to many locations in both Canada and the USA until he retired in 1981. During Marvin’s 32 year career in the oil drilling business, he married Elsie Joyce Sawyer on May 17, 1958. Marvin and Joyce enjoyed a great deal of travel throughout their lives with his work in the oil industry. They were avid golfers and loved designing and decorating homes. Later in life, Marvin and Joyce wrote two personal life manuals for both the young and adult population. These books were donated to various organizations. They were well-received by many political and religious leaders. Marvin leaves to celebrate his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton, Alta. The Cremation Committal will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 5420 – 106 Street, Edmonton, Alta.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marvin may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Family and friends are asked to remember Marv as they knew and loved him.
