In Loving Memory of

Nancy Lees Lord

(Maiden: Corbett)
of Edmonton
Feb 1, 1916 - Aug 17, 2018

Nancy Lord died peacefully on August 17, 2018. She was 102 and had good health until her last few months.

Nancy was a devoted and involved Edmontonian. To that, she added a love of adventure that took her to distant places long before they were "discovered". She kept current with world and local news; she loved poetry, music and telling a good story; she was fun and ready for just about anything. She also led, by quiet example, in facing some of the thorny issues of our time. She took particular pleasure from the farm near Peers, golf at Royal Mayfair and dancing. Her connection to Garneau United Church was lifelong and meaningful.

Nancy’s family was central to her life. She survived her parents, William and Norma Corbett, her sisters and brother, Agnes Wynn, John Corbett, Mary Stevens and Rhona Bilsland and her husbands, Douglas Sharpe (1944) and George Lord (1990). Her four children and their partners remember her fondly - Peter and Joyce Sharpe, Marnie and Chuck Swanson, Cathy Lord and Susan Lord and Greg Bird. She inspired her six grandchildren and their families - Paul Sharpe (Athena, Crystal and Ryan), Andrea Sharpe (Jon, Emilie and Alexa Grimble), Jeff Swanson (Jennifer), Scott Swanson (Christin, Natalie, Avery and Liam), Spencer Bird and Annika Bird. She also leaves a large cohort of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

Nancy became an enthusiastic resident of Canterbury Manor in 2014. We are grateful for the fine quality of life she enjoyed there, among old and new friends. We also especially remember the unstinting care and support of Hanne Dam and Elma Candelario.

Please join Nancy's family in remembering her at 1:30 pm on Saturday September 8 2018, at United on Whyte Church, 7909 82 Avenue, Edmonton. Rather than flowers, we ask those who wish to do so, to support Nancy's 80+ year connection with CKUA Radio - donate.ckua.com.
