Karen Skrypnek

In Loving Memory of

Karen Skrypnek

of Edmonton
Sep 23, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Skrypnek announces her passing on September 23, 2016. Karen fought a courageous battle with cancer and passed peacefully with family by her side. She will be forever cherished by her children, Reed MacLaren (Brooke) and Shannon MacLaren (Henry Edgar); grandchildren, Hudson, Kaiden and Harrison; father, George Skrypnek; sister, Berna (Brad Richens); in-laws, Jim, Sandra, Dave and Barb MacLaren; nieces, Lauren, Kirstin, Kim, Kelsey, Shelley, and Laura; nephews, Jordan, Sean, Mark, and Mike; and best friend, Diane Bergener.

Although the loss of Karen is immeasurable, her family is taking comfort that she is now reunited with her loving husband, Robin MacLaren and her mother, Phyllis Skrypnek.

The life Karen and Robin created together and the adventures they had with their children and extended family was what brought Karen the most joy and pride. These experiences will leave everlasting memories for her loved ones.

Second only to her love for her family was Karen’s passion for teaching and her dedication to her students. Over a career spanning nearly 30 years, Karen shared her love for math with thousands of students, many co-workers and was the "go-to" tutor for countless friends and family.

At Karen’s request, a private Memorial celebrating her life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Alberta/ NWT Division), #201, 9452 – 51 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB, T6E 5A6.
