In Loving Memory of

Matthew Los

of Edmonton
Jul 16, 2016

On Saturday, July 16, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer, Matthew Los left this earthly life at age 86 and entered into the care of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, Christine (née Fernhout) and by his seven children, their spouses, children and great-grandchildren: Arlene & Don, Keelyn & Mike with Fynnley, Tyler & Yuri, Niall, and their father Sandy McPherson, Gerald & Rose: Matt & Abby, Kent and Kailey, Karen & Phil: Travis & Dee, Brent & Carmen with Theo, Shera & Tom with Sophie & Vincent, Ian & Katlyn, Brian & Carmen with Faith, Rick & Ruby: Robyn & David, Chelsea & Lucas, Ray, Dave & Dory. He leaves behind one brother, two sisters and numerous relatives and friends.

Matthew was born in Hazerswoude, the Netherlands. He grew up in Voorschoten during the Second World War and served with the Dutch army in Indonesia in the late 1940's. He immigrated to what is now Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1954 where he met and married Christine Fernhout. Their seven children were born there and in 1970 Matt and Chris moved their large family to Edmonton as Matt believed that there were more opportunities for his children in the west. Matt took on many jobs to support his family over the years including bread, egg and milk delivery and sales of imported Dutch goods. Matt was a very hard worker and also ran a greenhouse business on his property in the 1960's. Gardening and plants remained a passion for Matt throughout his life. In his later years, Matt enjoyed travelling with Christine and they were both active volunteers with the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store. He will be fondly remembered for his appreciation of the simple things in life – the love of his wife and family, a good laugh, reading, and commitment to his church community.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Norwood Extended Care. Your care and support during his last days was a comfort and blessing to us who loved him.

A Celebration of Matthew’s Life will be held on Friday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Inglewood Christian Reformed Church, 12330 113 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB.
