Anders Venor Calhoun died on February 8, 2015 in Edmonton surrounded by family. He was 85.

Venor was born on March 13, 1929 in Edmonton to Dr. W.P. (Kelly) and Inez Calhoun. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Dentistry in 1953 and married Rita Dickson in 1954. Venor practiced dentistry in Edmonton for 42 years and, after retirement, consulted for the Workers’ Compensation Board while he and Rita enjoyed latter years living on Kapasiwin Beach, Wabamun Lake. Venor saw amazing changes in his life – at age 9, he rode his bike to see the first traffic light on 101st Street and Jasper Avenue; just recently he was amazed by the magic technologies used by his grandchildren. An outdoorsman, Venor loved golf, hunting, tennis, fishing, skiing and camping. He was active in the community as a Rotarian and served terms as president of the Edmonton Dental Association, the Grandview Community League and the University of Alberta Alumni Association. In 1978 he welcomed the Queen and Prince Phillip to the Commonwealth Games, Shooting Venue. He was a beloved friend to many.

Venor is survived by his wife Rita; daughters Laura, Avery and Jane; and grandchildren Doug, Kristine, Mitchell, Bretton and Emma. He is preceded in death by his brother, Lorne and son, Edward Lorne (called Ted). Celebration of Life to be held on Friday, February 13, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, 11526-76 Avenue, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Boyle Street Community Services.
