Uncle Tjeerd was the only still living brother of my mother Hendrieka Bosman-Bakker (Riek or aunt Riek for many). With a certain regularity they called each other and mother always mentioned this contact to us. Despite the long distance, mother felt connected to Uncle Tjeerd. Although at the age of 102 she gradually has less insight into the events of every day, it is evident that the death of Uncle Tjeerd, her brother, emotionally touches her. It also accentuates an approaching end for her, but also a realization that, like Uncle Tjeerd, she will find a trusted destination from her faith. For us, children of Aunt Riek, the distant family in Canada is almost an abstraction, especially made concrete by occasional visits of family members. Nevertheless, the news of the death of Uncle Tjeerd is also sad for us. We can hold on to the realization that he was allowed to reach a blessed age of 94 years. We would like to share from far away these emotions with you and we wish you - also on behalf of Aunt Riek - much strength in dealing with this farewell to a dear, warm and close person. Dear Cousins and Families: We extend to you our sincere condolences with Oom Tjeerd?s death. Although I only ever met him a few times, I remember him being a very dear sweet man...very artistic, musical, and possessing a good sense of humour. Our kids even remember Uncle Ted and really enjoyed meeting him at mom and dad?s 50th anniversary years ago. Mom and dad sure loved spending time with your parents in Arizona for quite a few winters. It was wonderful family time that was so special especially because it happened so infrequently. May the Lord comfort you as you mourn and allow you to cherish all the memories of your dear father.
