Obituary

Margaret Ida (Peggy) Robblee, dearly loved mother of Jim (Wendy), Neil (Sue), Jean and Nancy (Rob), died peacefully in Edmonton on January 26th, 2012 at age 94 with Neil at her bedside, the others there in spirit. Born Peggy Tredger, eldest daughter of Cecil and Florence Elizabeth Tredger, she grew up in Edmonton with her brothers, Cecil (Enid) and Joe (Marion), and her sister, Ruth (Bruce). After receiving her BSc in Household Economics from the University of Alberta, and subsequently, her Dietetics qualification, Peggy worked in the Provincial Lab and taught lab courses to science students. One of those lucky students was Alex Robblee, whom she later married (Peg gave Alex a B in the course, his lowest mark ever). It was the beginning of a 62-year romance full of joy and gentle civility, which they displayed with remarkable consistency for their whole lives. Alex died on Boxing Day, 2004.

Besides being an outstanding wife, mother and cook, Peggy was proficient at every form of art she tried. She painted, quilted, sewed, knitted, silver-smithed and more. She was a life-long and voracious reader, a clever bridge player and an avid gardener. She volunteered with many organizations, was a member of the University Womens Club, the Dietetics Association and the Alberta Home Economics Association. She was an amazing mother and she was wonderful with her grandchildren, of whom she had 11: Jim and Susies two children, Paula and Peter; Neil and Susans four boys, David (who, heart-breakingly, died at age two), Colin, Spencer, and Ian; and Neil and Sues son, Jim; Jean and Rods two children, Dory and Ned; and Nancy and Robs two children, David and Michelle. She also boasted four great grandchildren: Susana and Alex, children of Paula and Miguel; and Leia and Isla, children of Colin and Vanlee.

Peggy was a quiet, darling person. Never small-minded, always reasonable, she taught her children to practice moderation in all things. She demonstrated all the best qualities of a good and loyal Canadian. She will be greatly, sadly, lovingly and forever missed by her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, do an act of kindness for someone who needs help, plant a flower in a neglected garden, and make peace with all around you. A Celebration of Peggys Life will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Derrick Golf & Winter Club, 3500 - 119 St. NW, Edmonton.
